Netvizura is a Netflow application. Netflow is a brand name like Kleenex. Its just a generic term used to describe the exporting of flow data for capture and analysis. There are various versions and export protocols. It was developed by Cisco, but is used by Juniper under the names cflowd or J-Flow.

Netflow statistics provide visibility into the contents of the network traffic and are able to differentiate based on factors such source/destination IP addresses or protocol information such as TCP/UDP ports.

A flow is defined as a set of IP packets passing an observation point in the network during a certain time interval. All packets belonging to a particular flow have a set of common properties. A packet is defined as belonging to a flow if it completely satisfies all the defined properties of the flow. Flows can be analyzed to provide network and security monitoring, network planning, traffic analysis, and IP accounting.

Our sampling rate is 1 packet out of every 4096 packets. This means that small flows are underreported.
